Nabet Brothers and Sisters
NewsThis site is a grass roots effort to make our union brothers and sisters aware of what's going on. The company positions and the political climate are making for a very difficult environment for us as union members to survive and move forward. YOU need to be aware of what our unions are up to and just how they are acting on your behalf. This site is a virtual place for union brothers and sisters to gather and exchange news and ideas to help further our position in the work place and in our community.

Tell your coworkers, and your union brothers and sisters to sign up here. Share your thoughts and ideas.
Here Now! Our Own Employee Survey
NewsTake OUR Employee Survey

Tired of being told how you feel, then shake your head in amazement?

We at nbcnabetwac.com are working on our own employee survey which should be on-line by the end of this week. Our survey is a direct response to the E-Mail NBC's Executive Vice President of Labor Relations sent to us a few weeks ago. Blaming the whole contract negotiation breakdown on the union.

If the company was so concerned about our well being they would back-off on the content producer Issue (which they seem to be losing in the NLRB anyway) and give us raises, and finally bring the Daily-Hire workforce, which they crammed down our throats, up to parity with the rest of the NBC Employees.

This is a one time opportunity to fight for the daily hires. This company/union dispute is right in the face of the government regulators. By fighting for the Misrepresented Daily-Hire work force at NBC, we as union brothers and sisters can finally have unity amongst ourselves. (There is a strong lack of unity now) Divide and conquer is the companies motto! All of the members will benefit if the Daily-Hires are made equal. There is strength in numbers. We believe a lot of the jurisdiction problems will go away. As I said before, this is a ONE TIME opportunity and it needs to be TAKEN NOW! There will be no later! We all have to make a sacrifice and chip in a few dollars weekly to protect our future. This has to come from us the membership! The union can not do this alone. Vote NO on any contract that does not have serious gains for the Daily-Hires.

Comcast-NBC merger is bad for workers and consumers
NewsFrom the CWA e-Activist Network:

There's no way around it: The Comcast-NBC merger is bad for workers and consumers.

Combining a cable company with a major broadcast network is a recipe for disaster, leading to job cuts, reduced competition, and restricted access to online content for consumers.

On top of all that, Comcast has a long record of violating workers' rights. After its last big merger, with AT&T Broadband in 2002, Comcast immediately set about crushing AT&T's unions. If this merger is allowed to happen, even more workers will be subjected to this union-busting behavior.

But right now you have a chance to change it. The Federal Communications Commission is accepting public comment on the merger, and we have a simple tool to let you speak out. Take a few minutes to stand up for workers and consumers now:

Comcast already pays its workers about a third less in wages and benefits than unionized telecom companies.

If this merger goes through, it would take on an additional $8 billion in debt. That means the new company would face the choice of cutting jobs or raising prices. Either way, workers and consumers lose.

A combined Comcast-NBCU could also limit consumers' access to NBC's online content, or it could charge consumers higher prices to access that content unless they are cable subscribers. The Internet is all about choice, but that could change if Comcast and NBC are allowed to join together.

With your help, we can make sure that doesn't happen. Urge the FCC to stand with workers and consumers. Submit your comments now:

NBC NYC Upfront - Red Shirts Show Up
NewsToday Monday May 17, 2010 gave our Nabet union brothers and sisters a chance to be seen and heard by the advertisers and supporters of NBC Television. Nabet-CWA, the union that represents most of the broadcast technicians and employees that bring NBC television to air, has been with out a contract for 14 months now. I have to wonder how the advertisers will feel when their names start showing up in anti-union messages.

Today as I walked about the crowd of union workers I was pleased to run into brothers and sister from not only Local 11 but ABC's Local 16 and few other locals. This is a wonderful show of support by our friends and is greatly appreciated. Here are a few pictures from today’s event. Notice the police hassling the Rat sign truck. It was a good showing by our members. Thanks to all who participated.

Executives at Comcast Corp. and NBC Universal, testified at a House hearing on the cable giant's proposed $13.75 billion deal. Both executives faced muted resistance as lawmakers focused their questioning on employee job security, more diverse television programming and the deal's possible impact on the online video market.
